Emma Daniels is a K-9 trainer, former foster parent, and former teenage rebel. After calling 911 when a baby is left on her porch, she's surprised to see that Macon Ridley is the first officer to respond. A few years earlier, Macon and his canine partner Bogie were students of Emma's, and she and Macon had a flirtatious relationship. Macon suspects the baby's presence isn't innocuous, however, and immediately becomes protective of Emma, but both Emma and Macon have tragic pasts that are affecting their current lives. VERDICT Wrapping up the multi-author "K-9s on Patrol" series after Scent Detection by Leslie Marshman, this entry, which can be saccharine and overdramatic, isn't essential.--Mary Frances Cely
